Build scent-detection skills step by step
The ScentWorks K9 course is centered on developing a clear odor-search system between dog and handler. Participants work through progressive exercises intended to strengthen motivation, odor recognition, search behavior, handler observation and communication.
Because the course unfolds over approximately 14 weeks, teams have time to practice, return with questions and build on earlier skills rather than compressing the process into a single weekend.
From foundations to increasingly realistic searches
Dog & Handler Foundations
Develop reward value, communication and the working relationship needed for productive searches.
Odor & Search Development
Introduce and strengthen the behaviors involved in locating the trained target odor.
Handler Observation
Learn to read behavior, manage search flow and avoid unintentionally influencing the dog.
Trained Indication
Work toward clear, consistent communication when the dog locates target odor.
Progressive Challenges
Increase search complexity as the team develops confidence and reliable foundations.
Practice & Maintenance
Understand how continued practice supports skills after the scheduled course concludes.
Training for practically any lawful target odor
Programs may be developed for explosives, narcotics, firearms and ammunition, or other lawful target odors and operational needs. We also train tracking and search-and-rescue disciplines for qualified dogs, handlers, agencies, and organizations.
